It started out when two young, moderately depressed, recovering drug and alcohol abusers, or, rather, two longtime friends met up to "make music" together; "let's just make a song, something weird." Add in another friend with the same “let’s… make… something weird,” disposition, put them together for roughly 40 hours, and you've got an indie band in the works.
